2022 Rules

Baseball

Baseball Pitching Machine

AND

Baseball Coach pitch

Goal:  To teach the players the basic rules and techniques of baseball. And to have fun!

  1. Ten players on defense. A pitcher, catcher, 4 infielders & 4 outfielders.
  2. Everyone bats in the lineup. If one team has more players, the other team will bat the same amount of players.
  3. Balls used:
    1. Coach Pitch- Safety sport baseball size balls
    2. Machine pitch- baseball size pitching machine balls. Yellow dimpled balls in the shed.
  4. No walks.
  5. Hit by pitch: counts as a ball, unless the batter swings.
  6. Innings: 6 runs per inning or 3 outs. Continuation of runners will be in effect, so a maximum of 9 runs may occur.
  7. Base running:
  8. No stealing
  9. Overthrows: Runners may advance only one base on an overthrow. (i.e. catcher throws to pitcher and pitcher misses the ball)
  10. “Dead ball” is determined by the umpire. The play is considered “dead” when the pitcher has the ball in the proximity of the pitcher's mound. If a “Dead Ball” is called by the umpire, runners who are less than half way between bases must return to the base. Please be compliant if you are asked to return to a base.
  11. Runners may not lead off the base. They must wait for the ball to leave the pitcher's hand/pitching machine.
  12. Bunting is not allowed.
  13. Coaches must stay inside the dugout during defensive play. You may have base coaches on the 1st and 3rd base sidelines during offensive play. Base coaches must stay inside the base coach box which is 6 ft off the baseline. You must have a coach inside the dugout at all times (i.e. Coach in dugout, Coach on 3rd baseline and player with helmet on 1st base line). All coaches on the field must have had a background check.
  14. Foul balls with 2 strikes- batters remain at bat if they continue foul off pitches (no limit).
  15. Coach-Pitcher may not interfere with the defensive play if the ball is thrown or hit.
  16. Coach-Pitcher must pitch from the pitching mound.
  17. Coaches must ensure the defense is ready prior to pitching. If an umpire determines a coach-pitcher throws a quick-pitch, they will call “no pitch” and the play will be restarted.
  18. If a coach-pitcher is hit with a batted ball after delivering a pitch, the ball is considered dead. The batter is awarded first base and all runners may advance one base only. Coach-pitchers will try their best to avoid being struck with a hit ball.
  19. If the batter hits the pitching machine, dead ball - take a base, all runners advance one base.
  20. Little League SOP’s- one minute between innings. Hustle in, hustle out.

Program Expansion & Safety

We now offer T-Ball through Majors Baseball.

And because of the hard work and carefulness with funds over the last few years in Hillcrest Youth Baseball, Little League games will be played on break away bases for official Majors/Minors Little League games.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How old does my child need to be for Majors and Minors?

A. We try very hard to accommodate all children age 9-12 in Majors and Minors. We follow the official Little League age calculator and rules. If we have enough coaches and skill level is appropriate we welcome our 8-year-old players to participate in the tryouts as well. So long as there is space, and we feel they have the skill to be safe on the field they will be placed on a team Minors team.  If they are more equipped for pitching machine they are able to play in this league.

Q. Does my child need to live in Ammon to play?

A. No. All children in Bonneville County are welcome to play.  Our charter with Little League is for all of Bonneville County

Q. Is this league for Boys and Girls?

A. All children that fall within the age requirements for 4-12 year olds are welcomed to play in our programs.

Q. What is the projected schedule baseball and softball?

A.

May-June

Majors: 10-12 yr olds - Monday and Wednesday - 6 PM & 6:30 PM

Minors: 8-10 yr olds - Tuesday and Thursday - 6 PM & 6:30 PM

June

Pitching Machine: 7-9 yr olds - June 830 AM - 4:30 PM

T- Ball: 4-6 yr olds -  June 830 AM - 4:30 PM

All Softball Divisions: 7-12 yr olds -  June 830 AM - 4:30 PM

September

Fall Baseball and Softball: September M-F 6 PM SAT Depending on numbers

Q. Where are the Games played?

A.  We use 7 City of Ammon baseball fields; McCowen Park, Lions, Eagle Pointe, and Peterson Park North and South fields.

Q. What rules do you use?

A. We are the only league in South Eastern Idaho that is affiliated with the Official Little League and we use their rules.

Q. What divisions are in your league?

A. Baseball - Tee Ball (4-6), Coach Pitch (6-7), Pitching Machine (7-8), Minors (8-11) and Majors (10-12).  Softball- Pitching Machine (7-10), Coach Pitch  (7-10) and Fast Pitch  (10-12).

Q. Will my child need to tryout or redraft every year?

A. No. All you need to do register and list the team your child played for last year. If for some reason your child would prefer not to return to their previous team, they are welcome to once again tryout and be redrafted.

Q. My boy and his neighbor friend wants to be on the same team for car pooling reasons, can they be?

A. Ages 4-8 that is totally possible. For Minors and Majors here is the answer.  The only way that 2 friends can be on the same team is if they were drafted onto the team or their parents are coaching and if there are available spots to protect the kids.  A player can only enter the team by protected status if there are less than 2 protected players already on the team.

Q. Will siblings be placed on the same team?

A.  Absolutely! Younger siblings need not tryout, and will be placed on the older siblings' team. If the older sibling is on a Major team and the younger sibling wants to be on a minor team, the younger sibling will have to tryout and be drafted onto a Minor team.

Q. What kind of time commitment is expected from my child? From me?

A.  Teams have 2 games per week, Minors have typically played on Tuesdays and Thursday, while Majors have played Mondays and Wednesdays. Games are held in the evenings. Most coaches will hold a practice or two through the week as well.

Parent involvement is an integral part of this league. We are run 100% by volunteers; from the Board members, to the coaches, to the scorekeepers, to this website. Please consider offering to help.

Q. How can I help?

A. This is a great organization that teaches many things to our young players. We're proud to be a part of it.  If you're willing to give some of your time this season, we always need coaches and assistant coaches, score keepers, pitch counters, Board members, help with equipment, ordering uniforms, creating ads, entering scores. If you've no experience in things, no worries! We'll welcome the offer and help you learn anything you need to know.
